A Message From Our Youth

As AUTHORs (derived from the French word "autor" meaning father), it is our directive to give birth to original written works of every genre from our own life stories and societal predicaments. As Impact Communication Specialists we ascribe to the idea that our written words…our art…must do something. 

Upon completion of the Authoring Action Summer Institute, we proudly join The Assegai Outreach Ensemble. When we engage with you, our determination is to rock your world and move you towards change and ACTION.

We believe literacy extends beyond the ability to read, write and get good grades to include a felt sense of empowerment, possibility, transformation and productive citizenship.

We embrace language, public engagement and art as powerful tools to author the next chapter of our lives...

Through Authoring Action, we are fortified in our craft and sent out to fortify others. We joyfully and powerfully join the national civic, educational and cultural movements that promote literacy, a thirst for knowledge, academic excellence and global human development and change. 

Assegai Prime Directive

Authoring Action is founded to develop teen authors who create original written works from life stories and societal predicaments. We develop forums in collaboration with professional artists to engage the world through spoken word on stage and screen and in design and publication.

Our determination is to empower ourselves with tools for self development and vocational choice; to empower ourselves as an ensemble through the Arts and Impact Communication; to empower ourselves to exercise our civic, social and economic rights and to educate and re-educate our at-risk society.  

Whenever we engage you our determination is to mean everything we say and do. Our determination is to rock your world and move you towards change. We can only do that if we are daring, sincere, honest and willing to share who we are.
